If you have experienced file losses or compromises (due to viruses or hacking) and have identified these issues promptly (within approximately 12-24 hours to a maximum of 10 days), you can recover these files from the backup (backup copy). To achieve this, follow the steps below:
- Log in to your cPanel account: Access your cPanel account and navigate to Files -> R1Soft Restore Backups. You will be redirected to the backup server, opening an interface resembling an explorer.
- Access the desired backup: Click on the plus sign next to Disk Safe 0 and then on the one next to /dev/sdax (where x is generally 2). A list of backups organized by days will be presented.
- Select the appropriate backup: Click on the plus sign to view files from the most recent backup day when you know the compromised files were still in order.
- Identify the desired files: Navigate to the desired files (for website files, you should find them in public_html or a subdirectory, in which case click on public_html). Select the file, files, or subdirectory you want to restore (never select an entire folder if you only want to restore specific files) and click the “Restore Selected Files” button.
- Restore the selected files: On the next page, either check “Overwrite existing files” (this is the recommended option) or select “Restore to alternate location” (to obtain files from the backup in another location, in which case they will be restored along with parent folders, meaning you will need to manually place them in the appropriate locations). Then, press OK.
- Complete the process: Press OK to confirm your chosen actions and complete the restoration process.
Recovering files from backup using R1Soft in cPanel is a straightforward and efficient process, ensuring the quick restoration of compromised or lost data within the shortest possible time frame. It is essential to follow the steps carefully to ensure the proper recovery of the necessary files.
